Tools and Hardware Reviews of Stanley 16-050 Sharpening SystemCustomer Review: Make a simple jig, and you don't have to think about squareness and bevel angle. Summary: 4 StarsI bought this honing guide 7 or maybe 8 years ago. Mine was made in England, and didn't come with the stone and the oil, so it's not exactly the same thing as sold here.
Having said that, I have one thing to say about the honing guide, which should be useful for people on budget: You can hold your edge tools squarely each time you use the thing, with the same bevel angle, by making a simple jig.
The jig comprises three thin metal strips glued together (see my first picture). I used a 1-inch wide aluminum strip, a half inch brass one, and a 1/4 inch brass one. Material is not that important as far as it is durable but softer than steel.
Your edge tool is inserted into the honing guide while the long edge of the aluminum strip of the jig is pressed against the honing guide. The thinnest strip of the jig is partially inserted into the guide too. The edge tool is pressed against the square edges of the brass strips. All three pieces (honing guide, jig, edge tool) are held by one hand (see my second picture), you'll tighten the screw using the other hand, and you can just remove the jig as the metal strips are thinner than your edge tool. This sounds more difficult that it really is.
The difference of the width of the widest two strips determines the bevel angle. If it's half inch like mine (i.e. 1-0.5 = 0.5), or about 25mm, you'll get 30 degrees. If you prefer 25 degrees, you have to make the difference 1/4 inch or about 12.5 mm, so you'll use 3/4 inch strip instead of 1/2 inch.
Good luck.

Oh, and one more comment.
Though I cannot say anything about Chinese manufactured version (I don't own one), I can say that the quality of made-in-England thing is not superb or anything. It was already a cheap tool that works OK when I bought it.
